TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTIONS Graphing And Analysis (Page 2 of 13)

The first step is to enter the function in the function editor. We will use the function name Y1. The Y1 symbol represents the variable y. Enter the rule for the function to the right of the equal sign. Use the X,T,theta,n key. key to enter the variable x. Clear any previous functions from the editor if necessary.

 Y= key.

 CLEAR key. (Clear any previous functions)

 2 Plus key. 3 SIN key. 4 X,T,theta,n key. Minus key. 2nd Pi key. Right parenthesis key.

To decide on an optimal window for the graph, we need the period, amplitude, vertical shift and phase shift (horizontal shift). You should be able to determine (from the function) that the period is π/2, the amplitude is 3, the vertical shift is 2 units upward, and the phase shift is π/4 to the right. From what we know about the period, the function will complete one cycle when 0 <= 4x-pi <= 2*pi. Solving for x, this means pi/4 <= x <= 3pi/4.
