The first step is to enter the expression for the function in the function editor. To do this, the dependent variable y must be isolated. We access the function editor by pressing the Y= key. key.

Let's graph the function f(x) = abs(2x^3-3x+5)-3x^2+2x+1. We will enter this expression using the TI-83/84 function name Y1. The Y1 symbol represents the variable y. Enter the rule for the function to the right of the equal sign. Use the X,T,theta,n key. key to enter the variable x. The absolute value command, abs, is located in the MATH NUM submenu.

 Y= key.

 CLEAR key. (Clear any previous functions)
