Another way to avoid the "false connections" is to graph the function in dot mode. This can be accomplished by changing the mode to Dot, or by changing the graphing style in the function editor.

Let's set the graph style to dot mode, then re-graph the function using a standard window.

In dot mode the calculator does not give misleading information, but we do lose some of the continuity of the graph image. In general, calculators have a difficult time presenting an accurate graph of a rational function. For this reason, it is best to view the graph from more than one perspective whenever possible. In the remaining examples we will try to present graphs in connected mode using carefully constructed windows for optimal results.
