COMPLEX NUMBERS Polar Form Operations (Page 2 of 4)

As a first example, we will find the product of the complex numbers 5cis204° and 2cis34°. We will multiply each argument by π/180 to convert the angles to radians as part of the command. Since we are in Degree mode, the resulting argument will be given in degrees.

 2nd QUIT key. CLEAR key.

5 2nd e to the x key. Left parenthesis key. 204 Multiply key. 2nd Pi key. Divide key. 180 Right parenthesis key. 2nd i key.
Right parenthesis key. Multiply key. 2 2nd e to the x key. Left parenthesis key. 34 Multiply key. 2nd Pi key. Divide key. 180
Right parenthesis key. 2nd i key. Right parenthesis key. ENTER key.

Notice that the modulus of the product, 10, is the product of the two original moduli, and the argument of the product, -122°, is coterminal with 238° which is the sum of 204° and 34°.
