COMPLEX NUMBERS Polar Form Operations (Page 1 of 4)

To perform arithmetic operations with complex numbers in polar form, we can put the calculator into polar complex (re^θi) mode so that the results also will be displayed in polar form (the TI-83/84 does not make use of the rcisθ notation, and instead uses Euler's formula). The complex numbers must be entered using Euler notation re^(theta*i). Also, the argument θ MUST be in radians. We will put the calculator in Degree mode since it will be easier to recognize the results.

Let's begin by setting the modes to Degree and re^θi.

MODE key. [Degree] ENTER key. [re^θi] ENTER key. Calculator screen image.
