There is another type of asymptotic behavior that rational functions may exhibit. Let's investigate the function values as x becomes increasingly large in the negative direction. Continue to use the TABLE in Ask mode, but now enter larger and larger negative x values such as x = -5, -10, -100, -1000 and -10000.

From the results we observe that as x approaches negative infinity, the function values get closer and closer to the number 2.5, but are always a little less than 2.5. We say that y approaches 2.5 from below.
