A second method of solving a linear equation is to use the SOLVER feature of the TI-83/84. The SOLVER allows us to enter any equation and solve for one of the variables. To use the SOLVER, the equation must be set equal to zero.

Let's solve x^2-3 = 2x+4 again using the SOLVER. First we set the equation equal to zero: x^2-2x-7 = 0. Then access the SOLVER, which is located in the MATH MATH submenu.

If your equation line is not blank (following the equal sign), press CLEAR key.. If you do not see this screen at all, press Up arrow key.. Click here if there is an equation already entered that you need to clear.
