QUADRATIC FUNCTIONS Solving Quadratic Equations (Page 1 of 5)

One method of solving a quadratic equation graphically is to set the equation equal to zero, then define the left side of the equation as a quadratic function. The solutions to the equation (if they are real numbers) will be the zeros (x-intercepts) of the function.

Let's solve x^2-3 = 2x+4 using this method. First we set the equation equal to zero: x^2-2x-7 = 0. Enter the expression on the left as a quadratic function Y1, then graph the function using a standard window.
