LOGARITHMIC FUNCTIONS Evaluating (Page 3 of 4)

The TI-83 or TI-84 can only evaluate common logarithms or natural logarithms. To evaluate any other base logarithm, the change of base formula must be used to convert the base to either 10 or e.

For example, let's evaluate LOGbase6(2) using a base of ten. First write the logarithm as a quotient of common logs: LOGbase6(2) = log2/log6. Now enter this expression.

 CLEAR key.

 LOG key. 2 Right parenthesis key. Divide key. LOG key. 6 Right parenthesis key. ENTER key.
