LINEAR FUNCTIONS Solving Linear Equations (Page 1 of 7)

The first method of solving a linear equation graphically is to set the equation equal to zero, and define the other side of the equation as a linear function. The solution to the equation will be the zero (x-intercept) of the function.

Let's solve 3x+4 = (1/3)(x-2) using this method. First set the equation equal to zero: 3x+4-(1/3)(x-2) = 0. Enter the expression on the left as a linear function Y1 and graph the function using a standard window.
