EXPONENTIAL FUNCTIONS Evaluating (Page 1 of 5)

To evaluate an exponential function on the Home screen, use the exponentiation key Caret key.. Enter the base first, then the caret symbol, then the domain value (exponent).

For example, let's evaluate f(x) = 3^x for x = 4, x = -2 and x = sqrt(2).

2nd QUIT key. CLEAR key.

3 Caret key. 4 ENTER key.
3 Caret key. Negation key. 2 MATH key. 1: menu selection. ENTER key.
3 Caret key. 2nd Square root key. 2 Right parenthesis key. ENTER key.

We used the Frac command for the second example because the negative exponent led us to expect a fraction for an answer. The result from the third example is an approximate value.
